BSP’s roots originally trace back to early 1957, when NAB opened a branch ion Port Moresby. As PNG was approaching its new indepence, the government implemented new policies that stated all banks in the country must be incorporated in the country as well.
From there, the Bank of South Pacific was born in 1974. The year of 1980 saw BSP initiatea a public offering of its shares to the public, and just over 10 years later, the bank was completely owned by by PNG.
Only recently in 2006 has the bank moved into Fiji. After inititially acquiring Habib Bank (Fiji), BSP went on to wholly acquire Colonial National Bank from Commonwealth Bank in 2009.
This move gave BSP a solid presence in Fiji, allowing them to serve it’s nearly a million citizens, and its thousands of toursits every year.
